Dr. A.L. Pauls recognized and followed the body's movement patterns he found, exaggerated them slightly and therefore enabled the body to re-organize itself from within. The subtitle 'Evolvement of the origin concept' (of a human being) - shows the original intention of this method.
After qualifying as an osteopath, he was mainly using Jones' gentle positioning techniques, where the client's body has to be put into the most comfortable natural position. As a result, it can relax from within by reducing muscle tension, increasing felxibilty of blocked joints etc. and relaxing the entire body.
Since he was interested in holistic therapies and meditation, as well his own experience as a Judo instructor (he was the director of a Judo school in the UK), he had a deep understanding of the eastern philosophy comprising the principle that the body's energy flow follows certain rules and can be influenced. He subsequently combined his knowledge with the above mentioned gentle manual techniques, which he continuously further improved and refined.
Dr. A.L. Pauls started teaching Ortho-Bionomy®
in the U.S. and Canada in 1974. Since 1985 Ortho-Bionomy® has also been taught in Europe. Nowadays, the complete training programme necessary to become a Practitioner of Ortho-Bionomy® is also available in Europe.

A.L. Pauls chose the sand-dollar as the symbol for Ortho-Bionomy®, one of the oldest living structures on earth. His philosophy has, therefore, been reflected in a living creature, having a centre which iis not necessarily the mathematic-geometric middle.
Ortho-Bionomy® , however, respects the fact, that the centre of each individual is connected with his unique personality.
